I was hoping someone could tell me if the Wii Component cable is worth buying.  Do the games actually look different/better?

BigW has the Mad Catz brand cable - is this as good as the Wii cable?

They do look better, but its very marginal. Considering your current Wii collection you wouldnt get your moneys worth. Tongue

Personally I never buy 3rd party products. Quality usually isnt up to standards, dunno about component cables specifically though.

This party can sometimes be pretty good, if not BETTER than first party products (see stuff made by Hori and Nyko) but then you get companies like Joytech and Madcatz that should just be avoided.

I myself have official Nintendo brand component cables, but that was because they were the only brand I could find in stores in the week I was looking.

If you have component input on your TV, then you should get component cables.
I believe that the difference very much warrants the cost of the cables.

As Ninja mentioned, it depends on your TV. If you have a TV capable of 480i(?) then yeah its worth the cables.

Mario Kart looks sweet on my 40" with component cables.

Agreed. In fact, on my 32" LCD, 480p mode actually makes some things (Miis for example) look worse than 576i.  If you do get the cables, I would suggest playing the game for a while on 480p, then playing for a while on 576i.  I personally find 576i looks slightly "furrier" but as the Wii is not a HD feed, that actually helps hide some of the limitations that are much more options in 480p.  My Wii is set to WS576i, as to me that is the best compromise.

Agreed.  I almost never buy First party items when there is a third party option. More times than not the third party option is not only better, but can in some cases actually be more functional. When one is $50 and the other, better, more functional option is $20, well...
Joytech and Madcatz that should just be avoided.
Strongly disagree. I would own either of these companies products happily, and would buy them over other brands when there is the option.

I've got a third party cable, mainly because I got it from a friend who had no need for it.
Though I have yet to try 576i, and just opted for 420p, maybe might try and compare.

I purchased this cable from DealExtreme http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4256

It cost around $6.50AUD including shipping.  I just got it yesterday and it works a treat.  The quality difference is noticeable moving from RCA > component.  Highly recommended you get these.
