Here's our Prototype price round-up. A sand box super power game released right on the heels of inFAMOUS. It should be interesting to see how it fairs with last week's release but I'm sure many Xbox 360 owners will be pleased. Prototype is due out this Wednesday June 10th.

Price round-ups are forum discussions that let the community track prices and trade in offers for upcoming releases. It is an opportunity to share trade in exploits, point out online sales, reveal broken street dates and helps reduce work for staff so that we can have more frequent round-ups.

$99 @ Harvey Norman (comes with a charging dock), this is shown on the front page atm

Also, finished the game this morning (stayed up til 4am)... fair to say its pretty addictive, been a while since i stayed up that long. Graphics were beautiful, the controls were very fluent, the moves, the powers, and the whole dynamics were outstanding. A fantastic game, and definately goes down as a must buy for me!

It's actually $39.95 at GAME with a trade in, not $29.95.

Also Kristijan, you have the game already? Does that mean the street date has been broken?

i haven't played much of infamous just a couple of hours today, only done 2 missions the rest were side missions is it as good well on what little ive played prototype is much faster, more destruction, and far more brutality. they both have superheroes in them, but when you play prototype you truly dont feel like a human.

they are both quite different games; but both good. I can't really give a decent comparison cause i really haven't played enough infamous, but so far, i'd have to say prototype has better gameplay (again, cf 2 hours ingame with infamous to 16+ with prototype)

also bare in mind prototype is also just about sheer destruction and brutality... the destruction aspect is very much like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction in the sense that everything can be beaten up/exploded, and the fast paced nature of the game is great. Plus theres deeper bits like, later on, being able to hijack tanks and helicopters and use their weaponary to your aid.

in a nut shell, if you have both you're gonna have to play both!

From my post on Palgn.com.au

From what I gather from other certain forums, the undercover type that deal in illicit game releases, Prototype is rather disappointing. This may be why there are no reviews out to date. That being said, some people on that forum do like the game, however, their reasoning is either a) it was *free*, or b) mindless action.

This is from one particular forum member;
This is a game for the people who want a Crackdownesque game with more focus on superpowers rather than gunplay. Just like Crackdown you won't see the real fun in the game unless you keep at it for an hour or two and get a few new powers unlocked.

I'm enjoying it through and through, sure it's so over the top that I can't even think of a good enough superlative for it but as long as you're cool with that this game delivers. It's action, action, action and more action. I find the getting around quite smooth and streamlined, sort of a parkourgame on crackcocaine. The animations while climbing, flying and running are quite good in my opinion, they fill the gaps between the aforementioned modes of transportation very well.

The graphics is.. well, it certainly isn't terrible but it sure isn't great either, this could have been done five years ago graphicswise. On the plusside though is that I haven't noticed any slowdowns and from time to time there can be an assload of characters on the screen at the same time which is pretty cool.

You get to experiment with a wide array of powers and, since it's an over the top game, the protagonist basically has every single power you'd want from a superhero
There's the Wolverine-like claws, the Mystique-like doppelganger-tricks, Spiderman-like vertical and horizontal wallrunning, flying (well gliding, but almost), extreme strength (throw a semi trailer across a couple of blocks) and much much more. If the powers aren't enough you get to play with a couple of weapons and vehicles, it's all right but it's been done before and it's been done better.

I don't think the productionvalues are all that bad? The CGI/Movies you get for unravelling the plot are nicely done and plentiful. The story is, while unoriginal, not terrible and there's plenty of sidechallenges to keep you occupied. Sure if you stand still in one spot and observe the graphics, sounds, traffic, NPC's and so on you'd be heavily disappointed if you compared to GTAIV and the like but this isn't that sort of game. It's a fastpaced, devil may care, freeroaming superpower beat em up.

I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone, it's fun, it's fast and it's one of those games where the more you play the more cool stuff you learn to do (think Assassins Creed once you really got hang of the climbing and running etc). Personally I'm enjoying this more than I enjoy Red Faction although Red Faction is probably the overall better game. I can't endorse the guys saying this is GOTY but I certainly don't agree with the ones who says it's ****. It's a 7.5/10 game easily enough.

From another user:
This definitely seems to be a hit or miss kind of game. I played until day 6 so far and I have read much about the graphics and the controls being mediocre at best, as well as the story being generic and dumbed-down. Someone mentioned "production values", which to me always translates to "I want to see that much money is behind this game". I might be wrong about that, not being a native speaker and all, maybe a definition of production values (or some googling on my part) is in order.
- The voiceover work is fantastic, escpecially for a game of supposedly "limited" budget. Especially the secondary characters, e.g. the two guys in the autopsy room or the military radio chatter and the ground troops yelling "Kill the motherfrecker!" etc. - exceptionally well done in my opinion.
- The main story script... well I haven't digested most of it, but it does seem a little lacking in the mission incentive department, I admit. The main character - the guy that saved our world in the Battlefield Earth movie! - can come across a little cheesy, but that was the case with Bionic Commando, too. In fact, it's even worse there because they try to justify the bad dialogue with try-hard tongue-in-cheek lines in between. Mike Patton or not, that one's story could have been MUCH better. Loved the swinging though...
- The web of whatever cutscenes are fantastic, the overall art direction and the inclusion of real-world images/video really make me take that detour to get the next node. The distorted visual effects and disturbing images remind me of the intro/outro to Dawn of the Dead 2004 or even the Jenova scenes in Final Fantasy VII, the blending/shifting sound layers complement the images.

One last one...
1. The world sucks. you are just thrown into this world that looks s!!!, is messy and just boring as hell. The city in GTA3 is more detailed and interesting.
2. Game controls are terrible. Run with R and shoot with X? Is this a F!!!!!! soccer game? It is almost impossible to actually do anything you want to. Everything just happens the way it want's to. the aim is horrible (lock on aiming needs to die) and the camera is slow as hell.
3. Animation is ****py, the collisions are even worse and the powers and gimmics could have been thought up by a 3-year old.
4. Seriously, throwing cars is not cool anymore. they did that 5 years ago. I don't want it to be as simple as s!!! to do all this over the top stuff.
5. The whole game has a REALLY low budget fell to it. It reeks of bad game design, absolutely no sense of inovation.
I had more fun looking at a video of infamous (and I do not like sony or the ps3) than i had playing this s!!! for almost an hour.
"you want to throw a car at a helicopter? Sure, just press B then L and then B again. Now try it with your eyes closed"
And no, there has not been any reviews of this game from legit sources yet. As of last week, no major sites or magazines has even seen anything more than breif glimps of gameplay. I wonder why?

Hope that helps those who are wanting to pick this up but are apprehensive due to the lack of reviews.

I think the first opinion in the post above got it pretty much right. As to the last guy he's just trolling.

1. The world looks decent, but it is the same buildings, same people, same enemies looped over and over, but its a huge world, and theres still quite a bit of variety to it.
2. I thought the controls were awesome, you gotta realise how many powers you will be having at your disposal and i thought the mapping was very effective. Besides, once you learn a button for each action, whats it matter which one it is? The only annoying one was when moves (2 ones i used often) were tied to the x+b command... its tough to hit that combination. As for the comment about lock on aiming it was fine and the camera "slowing down" is actually DONE ON PURPOSE... its a cool effect, as you lock on to one enemy when you right flick to the one next to him, the camera goes in slow mode, allowing you to select your targets without them rushing at you and caining you straight away.... in such a fast paced game this was a FANTASTIC FEATURE.
3. The animations were awesome, both death and power animations. Very brutal, i liked em.
4. Yeah you throw cars, you can also throw air conditions, you can also throw pretty much anything in the game. It comes in handy against the bigger enemies and just cause its done before doesn't invalidate it as being cool.
5. I completely disagree. Yeah it wasn't innovative, but to put so much in one title was awesome, the design could of been better, but it didn't have to be, not in this instance.

Overall i really enjoyed it and i really enjoyed teh free-roaming destruction that you can cause. I think the last guy was really just bashing it he clearly doesn't have a grasp of the game, or expected too much, or has probably played every game in the existance of man kind cause he's obviously seen or played it all before lol

Not to be annoyed, but ****ty reviews like that just get under my skin.... its not helped by the fact he clearly didnt buy the game and doesnt take the time to appreciate it and instead just treats it as the coaster a blank cd can become.

If you like open world destruction, over the top power and brutality and you want a semi-decent story in your venture... then I couldn't not recommend prototype for you

By the way the reason why there is no reviews out or very few is because Activision (the publisher) has an embargo on the release of reviews and has been systematically removing reviews of the game from sites, whether they are favourable or not.

With the game trade in deal. Is that only for pre-order? Or can I use this deal after it has come out?

The Red Faction deal and others are there still, so hopefully it'll be up after too. Thanks for the mini-reviews guys.

Cheers for the input Kristijan. I was hesitant to put up those user reviews, mainly because of the source, but when you combine them, you get a decent idea about how the game plays and who may enjoy it. Hopefully there will be some legit reviews out soon so we can gather a better idea. Myself however, after seeing the trailers, will be skipping this title for the time.

I'll probably get it from JB Hi-Fi or get EB to match their deal.  I have a bunch of <$20 games that aren't on the exclusion list.  I wish they would just sell games for $60 or less, so I wouldn't have to keep trading 3 games (often the same games I traded last time).

Free when you trade in 3 XBOX 360 games:
