Boasting a deep storyline set in the alternate world of Rapture, BioShock 2 promises an engaging experience for those seeking a thrilling first-person shooter. Taking place eight years after the events of BioShock, gamers who have played the prequel should feel quite at home in the visually-captivating steampunk world. Players with an appreciation for game aesthetics will be very pleased with the presentation - right down to the sound effects, HUD, user interface. It?s not hard to see 2K Games' effort into making BioShock 2 beautiful.

Upon starting a new game, players will be presented with a short cinematic introduction to connect the storyline of the two games. Without giving too much away, the story of BioShock 2 will not make much sense unless you've played the first game. However, the game does its best to guide you with directions and snippets of the storyline throughout, so you?re not just left wandering around aimlessly killing enemies.

The graphics and the sound really set the mood. From the moment you're in control, you can already feel the 'loneliness' of Rapture. The ambient lighting and eerie background music keep you guessing - you never know what's around the next corner. BioShock 2 will keep your heart beating even when you're not in combat, but will reward you with moments to catch a breath once your opponents are lying dead on the floor.

Taking on the role of a Big Daddy, the 'premise' of your adventure in Rapture is to reunite with the Little Sister that you're paired with. Again, unless you've played the original BioShock, this won't make much sense at first. You'll encounter many Splicers (the common enemies) during your travels - but engage in battle with caution. Big Daddy isn't nearly as tough as you think. On normal difficulty, 4-5 hits from an average generic enemy will bring you to the brink of death. Luckily, the game will autosave for you at checkpoints and more important parts of the storyline. New players could expect to die a few times on their first playthrough.

As an RPG-like first-person shooter, BioShock 2 offers more than just the traditional guns for killing your opponents. Throughout the game you will obtain different 'Plasmids' which bestow upon you with new powers, like the ability to stun enemies, shock pools of water or burn enemies over time. Our favourite power is the one that allows you to pick up random objects and throw them forward with force. You could throw something harmless as a hat and end up killing someone - just use your imagination.

The singleplayer mode should last about 8-10 hours on a thorough playthrough. The level design is quite linear and the waypoint system helps you navigate to your objective; there?s even a level map - so players should have little trouble progressing through the game. In addition to the singleplayer offering, BioShock 2 also features a new multiplayer mode. However, due to the lack of playerbase and issues with Games For Windows Live (mandatory for the PC version), we were unable to test-play the multiplayer.

BioShock 2 is presented beautifully, right down to every last detail. The gameplay is challenging, the storyline is captivating, the visuals are stunning and the world of Rapture offers much to discover. The sense of not knowing what might be around the next corner breeds a sense of anticipation that is hard to find in more traditional first-person shooters. Fans of the first game will feel right at home and appreciate 2K Games' efforts in bringing the most favoured elements of BioShock over to BioShock 2.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption Print
Reviews - Role Playing

The role playing genre has exploded into mainstream gaming and collected many new fans along the way. If you're new like me and want to play through the classics or if you've been a fan since the beginning, Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption offers up traditional gameplay with a well executed and core vampire theme that may just be to your liking. Be forewarned that while Redemption features the strengths of a classic RPG, it also suffers many of the same weaknesses that has held the genre back.

  • zzyss : @xcess: somebody on OzBargain received confirmation from the Gaming Managing of Fishpond that they are: «link»
  • jake : shod i trade red faction, transformers ROTF and cod 4 for bad company 2 @ jbhifi or can i get a beta deal?
  • redburn : anyone know the cheapest place to get Blazblue for PS3?
  • GeEkNeRd : Fishpong... hahahaha :)
  • xcess : Is Fishpong an authorised reseller for the cashback offer ?
  • zzyss : Heads up: Fishpond $49 xbox controller (black) + 20% = $16 MS cashback - «link»
  • cody : Less bitching, more bargains people, seriously...
  • mish_kebab : came to AU$67 all up, pretty happy with that; although knowing BigW they'll have it for $68 shortly after launch.
  • mish_kebab : just caved and bought it from 365games, only a couple of pounds more but the shipping is included and they've had really good sales in the past. at least that's how I'm justifying it to myself :-P Can't wait to get the collection, then this shortly afterwards!!!
  • CJ Kefford : no worries
  • CJ Kefford : Should say on the game page towards the bottom 'Non-UK Shipping Surcharge £1.00 '
  • mish_kebab : mad, thanks CJ
  • CJ Kefford : @mish - One pound per DVD sized item
  • mish_kebab : what does dvd.co.uk charge for shipping to australia, just for a single game? anyone know? don't really want to give them my CC details just to find out.
  • CJ Kefford : 'Bargin chat' not 'have a whinge about JB trade in Chat', try here «link»
  • alakazak : i meant more the people who abuse the trade ins, ie trade in 15 games for 5 codmw2s, then take em to eb for credit, as compared to people who actually just want the game to play.
  • implsv : just under 50
  • ducdj : approx trade in value of AC2?
  • gizmomelb : cheapest Divinity 2: Ego Draconis for PC anyone please?
  • gizmomelb : I always ask EB to tradematch JB offer, that way the cheapo games I'm trading never add to JB's stock (thus making it to the exclusion list) and I can go back a week later and buy the cheapo games again for another trade :)
  • neosin : @alakazak I see your point, but you have 2 choices 1.post trade bait = lead to more exclusions or 2.Don't allow traid bait and everyone benefits? Really is it that hard to find bait urself? Also this site is about cheap game, you can still post info about cheap games without referring to trade bait
  • Brandon : it might be time to take this discussion to the forums boys and girls as this isn't bargain chat
  • alakazak : or, just throwing it out there, it could be that when a game is chep enough, a lot of people spam jbhifi with it, and then he game is near worthless to them? how many copies of the club do you reckon they have in their system? it's not their fault, its the people who incessantly trade games for credit
  • J : @neosin If that is your argument, you might as well say we should shut down ecogamer. The whole point of having this site is to share bargains with gamers. And they will always come and go (as will lists be updated). Are you saying that you've never used ecogamer for bargains? Cos if you have, then you're being hypocritical.
  • Fuelee : I dont know if the JB Fwits are monitoring here but they are most likely keeping an eye on their competitors websites such as GAME, EB for when they put games out cheap like with Too Human recently and im sure it wont be long till Lost Odyssey and Ninja Gaigen II are on exclusion list
  • Ignacio Diaz : i do see your point, but obviously JB will receive heaps of copies that everyone has traded in. its only natural that they'll add those games to exclusion list because they're not games that'll sell well in the end, you know? an example i can think of is muramasa on the wii. its on the exclusion list, not because its trade bait but because it probably didn't sell well. but this discussion isn't for this bargain chat :)
  • neosin : @Ignacio Diaz yeh it does, go to whirlpool and you'll see. If people suggest bait then what happens? Everyone get it and then it goes on the exclusion list, if you keep to yourself then chances are 100 other people won't find out? I know it sounds selfish but If we don't stop soon there will be nothing to trade :(
  • Ignacio Diaz : @Gameboy & neosin: i'm more than certain that additions to exclusion lists are because they don't want to be overstocked with the same game as well as games that don't sell well. nothing to do with them monitoring ecogamer.
